Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

The full outline for the Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time is here. The readings are Lectionary 79. The theme is the universal call to holiness and love.

In addition to how God instructs Israel to do no unnecessary harm to others, but in fact to show kindness and mercy to one’s neighbor, Leviticus adds one of the few instances of what we call the Golden Rule, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Our Lord fully developed the meaning of this precept to include very person in need whom we can help, even if he is an enemy. This can be most clearly seen in the Parable of the Good Samaritan in the kindness and mercy the Samaritan showed to the Jew left for dead by highwaymen.
