Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

EOWYN vs The NAZGUL in The Lord of the Rings. This same thing goes on in our hearts.

Here are the three parts:

  • Central idea: Choose what is right and live.
  • Doctrine: A good conscience.
  • Practical application: Formation of conscience.

In the later half of the 20th century, a number of moral theologians (maybe better to call them “Catholic” writers), did their best to confuse people about what conscience is, in order to justify their particular sins.

Here is a handy, and I believe correct definition of conscience:

  • Conscience is our reason, sitting in judgment on our actions, approving or condemning them, according to our understanding of the moral law.

CCC 1796 puts it this way: “Conscience is a judgment of reason by which the human person recognizes the moral quality of a concrete act.”
